Is there a standard amount you should put down on a car?
There is no universally correct down payment. A larger down payment reduces the amount borrowed and generally lowers the monthly payment and financing cost, but it uses more cash upfront.
Is the down payment the full amount needed upfront?
Taxes, fees, registration, and other purchase costs may also require cash. Depending on the transaction, some of those costs may instead be included in the amount financed.
Should you put more down or keep more cash available?
